Default Fluid capacities ?

I have a 11 RG custom and am currently changing all three fluids. I look in the service manual and it calls out 3.5qt motor, 1qt tranny, and 1.4qt (38oz) in the primary. It's the 96ci motor which I had on my 09 Fat Bob. So the question is on the bob the motor it was 3qt motor (2.5 put it at the middle of the gridlines) 1qt tranny, and 1qt primary so why more on the RG does it have a bigger oil pan (that's what they told me at the dealer) and why the extra 6oz in the primary? I did the oil and added 3qt and on the stick it is just up to the full line not above, so should I take some out to have it on the middle of the stick.

It's next to impossible to drain ALL the oil out of the bike unless you drop the pan. If it is over full..... some oil may leak out through your air filter. Run it for a little while and get it hot and recheck levels. Wouldn't worry too much at the FULL line.

There are two quantities for each hole: dry fill and wet fill. In addition to the quantities there is a level for each one. Don't just pour the oil in, fill it to the stated level: you will need approx the quantities you have stated, but don't be surprised if you have a little left over.

Thanks guys I was using the wet fill numbers, the main question was why are the capacities oil and primary different from the Fat Bob with the same motor. I also always put in less than recommended run the bike check levels and add from that point. The one that concerns me is the primary since on the RG it is calling for 38oz where as on the Fat Bob it only called for 32oz.

Go with the 38 oz in the primary since you really cant reopen it without buying a new gasket. My transmission took about 38 oz also and I believe around 3.5 in the motor. Keep in mind these are approx. capacities in the owners manual. As far as being the same motor as your Dyna, who knows, obviously they aren't the same or the capacities would be the same.

Ive been reusing my primary gasket since replacing it with a diff cover totalling oh at least 6x. If it seeped I woulda replaced it but it seems todo just fine. I always put a full qt in my tranny and 38 oz in my primary. I pump out my sump (Scavenger.com) so with that quantity as well as my 10 row oil cooler it takes 4qts 18oz. And I run it right on the full line, every time.
