Road King solo bagger pics?
Sorry, I can't compete with your 124" but I do have a full Stage 2 kit (a whole 95ci) with 510 S&S gear driven cams, Power Commander, Dyno-tuned, Screamin Eagle slip-ons and it still rides really well and goes like a train.
Cheers
The colour is Bronze Pearl, an original Harley colour only used for a couple of years around the year 2000. I have no idea why you would stop using a colour like this. This is a 2000 model, started as a Road King Classic, but the leather bags were a bit beaten up after 100,000 klms (about 60,000 miles - I'm in Australia) so I replaced them with bags from a later model Ultra (and the wheels), which I picked up cheap. Then I changed the seat, the bars .. you know the story!
The seat I actually imported from the US to Australia from Whiskers, whose bike appears right below my original post! A true gentleman who included a couple of extra bits in with the seat.
I'm very happy you like the bike. It gets A LOT of attention.
Awesome!!
I did the same things- started with a Road King Classic and added bags off an ultra and chromed mag wheels. I just had to have this color and Harley did not offer this color in the regular RK, only the classic....
Thanks for the info, it is a beautiful color!!!!
So, to answer your questions...
The chrome guards around the bags are a Harley part. I have an old parts & accessories cattle dog that says they are a "Chrome Saddlebag Guard Kit" with part #91216-97, but that's in a 2007 list so it's probably changed for your model. The kit should include the front bag guards as well as the 2 rails that run around the bags, because the rails bolt into that front guard and the stock ones do not have this. (Put the stock ones on a shelf in the shed with all those other stock Harley parts you have sitting around). No idea what they cost. I also have a 2006 FLHX Street Glide and they came with that bike when I bought it, but wouldn't fit it because (a) the Street Glide does not have the front guard for the bags at all and (b) the Street Glide has the panel at the rear that fills in the gap between the guard and the bags, so you can't get to the anchor points to secure the rails at the rear. You can fit Road King front bag guards to the Street Glide because the touring models all use the same frame and the holes and threads are there to do so. I took the stock front bag guards off the Road King and fitted them to the Street Glide when I fitted the ones you're asking about to the Road King. It all worked out very well for me!
The seat is Mustang. I just pulled it off and underneath it has written FLHR RK Solo 97 Up Part# 6FLR7DWN/75578 Not sure if that's a help to you. I think they changed the chassis for the touring range about 09. I picked up the matching bib on the rear guard completely by chance. I had a couple of searches set up on ebay and it came up as part of a sale in a shop in Bundaberg (famous for the rum) called Everything but the Bike. It was another bargain, and a real bonus. I think it really looks good. I originally saw the seat on a photo of a bike of another forum member, Whiskers and loved it instantly. I messaged him and asked him what it was and he said it wasn't fitted to his bike anymore, so I offered to buy it. Even with freight costs from Southern Colorado I think, it was a bargain. Whiskers has a photo of his Road King solo just below my original post. G'day Whiskers if you're reading this!
I had a lot of fun doing up this bike and met some really nice people getting all the bits & pieces. Happy to say it now has 130,000klms on the clock and still goes, handles stops and looks great and gets attention everywhere I take it.
So, that's (a bit of) the story. Try a PM again of there's anything else you might like to know and good lick with your project.
