why does every post turn into this? TH, as much as I love the sound and performance (and yes I've owned them) are not by any stretch of the imgination the best pipe for getting good dyno numbers. I could throw my .02 in on what I think is best but I won't and instead I'll provide this advice: Find you a tuner in your area that knows what he's talking about and actually knows how to tune. THAT is the guy you want to listen to for recommendations on performance of pipes. As for sound and looks, that's subjective at best and what sounds and looks good to one may not sound or look good to another.

As 07FLHT pointed out above, go check out your friends (don't listen to them either, listen for yourself), bike nights, rallies, etc. That's how you're going to determine what's best for you. This is exactly how I found the Thunderheaders a few years ago. Actually riding down the road, heard them as a guy flew by me, turned around and followed the guy for 20 miles before he stopped then I talked to him.

if you can't find a good tuner.. call Doc in Fla or hit up Mr. Wizard on here. Both will shoot you straight with their experiences.

I am happy with my CFR duals with the cat chiseled out of the headpipe. Like many have said, to avoid back pressure issues you will need a tuner and an expert to map it. It gets spendy, but at least you will know its right.
Sound is something based on the rider. There are many great pipes out there to choose from.

I have been using Big City Thunder "Thunder Monster" head pipe baffles for about three years. Economical, about $80 for the pair. They provide the "back pressure" but more importantly act as an anti-reversion device which will have more affect on dyno numbers.
I have SE 4" slip-ins that I gutted and broom sticked with a length of 1-3/4" exhaust tube from the local NAPA store. I ended up with the best of both worlds; I can keep it quiet if I need to, and get good volume when I get on it with good midrange tone. With the end of the pipe just past the saddlebag, you can hear the pipes and yourself think at the same time.

The people at Big City Thunder were very helpful and will answer your questions as well as any reliable tuner, when I did mine they walked me through the install and have me info on "back pressure" and reversion waves and how simple baffling really is.

Give them a call, it will be worth your time.

If you're going to stay with 2 into 2, check out RC Components. They have some nice looking and sounding slip-ons.

Cool

Pay attention at the next poker run you go on. I was at a HOG convention one year and heard "the right ones" (I think they were Rush if I remember) on a bike that pulled up, but I had to have fishtails. The V&H slipons are just the ticket. And they sound great when you rap on 'em. I thought of going true dual but I dont think the expense would've justified the small, probably imperceptable bump in hp. If I was boring the engine, maybe... but the Stage 1 is just fine for a 1000lb bike (with me on it). Not like Im gonna race. Those days are over.

I believe Jamie at fuelmoto still has the Rush/fuel controller/ac stage 1 packages.

Very pleased with V&H Dresser duals and Monster Rounds. Had the dealer install and the tech commented on how good the fit and finish were. Sound & performance are very good, to me anyway.

I went with the Black ceramic coated Rush two-into-one with 2.5 baffle for my R.K. standard using the 18mm ports for wide band tuning. Course it's not the classic. I prefer the cast wheels & hard bags but to each their own.

Keeping the two exhaust system for a classic R.K. I can understand but I'm 100% satisfied with the Rush I went with. Just enough sound at low and mid range and not overbearing at highway speed(s). All IMHO?
