Default Model year RK advice

Looking to buy a RK.I'm kind of narrowed down to '06-up w/hard bags.Would really like to hear some real life input on what model years are good-bad-more desireable, and what I should expect to be a good deal or fair price,as I have seen 2001's for 17,000$,and seen 2010's (w/5000 miles) for 11,000$ (JUST missed that one by about 3 hours).

RK standard has the hard bags and no C/control. I would try to swing a 2009 or newer, due to several major upgrades. If price is an issue, the 08's and older are a bargain and good bikes.

It depends on your wallet.
1) Buy a new one if you have the money
2) 2009 up to get the upgraded frame, exhaust, and tire/wheel combo. This is probably the best bet for a used bike.
3) 2007-2008 to get a 96 cu motor and 6 speed
4) pre 2007 or whatever has been taken care of and you like.

A lot of extra money for chrome, wheels, handlebars, seats, aftermarket mods, paint, etc, explains the high cost on some bikes. Also, some of the salvage bikes that are re-done are pretty good deals, if you trust them.

I bought a 2004 RKC just couple of months ago, and I love it! I was riding a sporty, which I loved, as my daily ride, but on the weekends the gas staitions here in Mexico are not that relieable, so I traded up to the RKC, not a mistake. I have a limited back in Boston, but this bike is very nice, I added V&H headers, monstah (boston Accent) rounds and a factory down load, with a SE AIR. THe bike pulls nice and is great for the long haul or bar hop. I wish the V&H were loud Like my sampsons, but I do have neighbors so whatever. I still think the RK, no matter what year is a great ride!!!! Good luck with your choice!!! Rubber side down!!!

It's hard to answer your question because we don't know how thick or deep your wallet is. That being said there are a lot of great used bikes out there. I found my first Road King on Craigslist and that purchase got me on my first and second Harley.

I had everyone tell me to buy 2009 or newer, to stick with cast aluminum wheels and I wanted hard bags. ABS is awesome, and the security system is very nice.
Do what you've been doing. Search Craigslist, eBay, and any other ads. Be patient and you'll know it when the right bike comes along.

Best of Luck! I just love the hunt!

I have an 01 Road King and love it. Have ridden the new frame (09+) and honestly think the TC88 is a great motor and there are so many upgrades you can do to the frame, motor and so on. Do what you can afford and upgrade as dollars permit. My bike has no problem keeping up with the newer bikes after mods.

Default Wait a couple of months if you can...

If I were you, I would wait a couple of months if you can, you'll have far more selection if you wait until Memorial Day-ish and you shouldn't pay any more if you're a smooth negotiator. The beginning of spring prices will spike, then level off.

That peace officer bike on ebay is nice and you won't see too many of them. That's a reasonable price too especially if you can talk him down a little and do the sale off of ebay where he has to pay fees.

I would be concerned about that craigslist bike, he says in the ad that he changed the fluids at 3300 miles...why? That isn't a service interval. He has only ridden 5500 or so on a bike that old, I think that bike sat, a lot, then was run, then sat a lot, then was run with the same stagnate fluids probably.

If your going back as far as 2006 concider going back a little more.. 2002 was the last year for a forged crank with the timken bearing and first year of Delphi fuel injection.

Take tour time and the right deal will pop up for you......
