What kind of miles are you getting out of your cam chain tensioner shoes?

I replaced mine at 30k while installing cams. Inner was pretty much new, the outer was kind of scary, much worse than I expected to see. I replaced both of them and will pull the cover at 60k and have a look.

I just had mine out. It has almost 30k on it. The inner one looked brand new. The outer one had grooves in it from the chain, but I think it would have gone a lot longer. I changed both of them because I had new ones already but am keeping the old ones for spares.

Mine is a 07 96in

I changed cams at 48K & didn't replace either one, inner showed no appreciable wear & the outer was what I would consider to be about 15-20% wear. I guess I'm not as paranoid as everyone else.

Redshift makes a neat dual piston cam shoe tensioner, had those installed with the TW222 cams.

Just installed TW222 cams at 21,000 and very little wear on both.

Heck, I thought the cam chain tensioner shoe issue was eliminated with the 96 cid engine. I have 77000 mi on my 09 and it never entered my mind to even think about them. I guess I'll check the oil and filter at the next change.

I was not paranoid, my outer was worn so it got replaced. I didnt think twice about it, been wrenching on cars and trucks for 25 years in a large dealership.
