Y I forgot to use the locking feature on the jack. The hydraulic jack had lowered during the night -
Ditto - BUT glad I left the side kick stand down - found the bike safe and sound on the side kick stand - totally lucked out it went to the left side (when my jack is down the left side is about a 3/16" lower than the right side) Is yours ?
Ive got a cheap jack - probably pretty similar to a Harbou Freight... The cylinder leaks down almost as fast as you can pump it up. Ive had it leak down on me a bunch of times when ive forgot to set the lock... Luckily its never fell over but a few close calls - that said it works fine and as long as you remember to set the lock its safe... Wouldnt feel the need to spend more

And that is the key! Use the safety features! I'm not gonna knock the high dollar jacks like J & S, and PitBull. They are quality products. But their hydraulic parts are still made in China I'll bet, just like the cheap jacks! So if you are on a budget, don't feel bad if you have to purchase a "lesser" jack for your bike. Just be smart in the use of it! (I used the money I saved by not buying the "in jack (s)" to buy a used one of these.......$2500.00 retail, I got the extended front too which I took off, all for $1000.00. Figured I could get my money back easy on it anytime the next several years!!)

I have a "Pro-Lift", bought it at an auto part store a dozen years ago. It's made in China, surprise, and when the bike is up on it, it leans very slightly to the left, kick stand side. The thing I like about it is the lowering pedal can be feathered down. When I lower it I stand on the right side, hold the right handlebar and it naturally eases on to the kick stand.
HF jack here. Do not use it often and always use the safety bar. Have to say 900 lb bike on 1500 lb capacity jack is not as stable as I would like and yes the HF jack drops quickly when released. I use it realizing the hydraulics are cheap so I take appropriate precautions and do not do a lot of pushing on bike when its on it. Have not had a problem in two years. Do not recall what I gave for it but it was on sale plus 20% off so way south of $100. No complaints.

I hated the release on the hf jack til i read the directions, slight press rapid release, full press slow release. That seems backwards but works better now. Mike
Red Craftsman. Bike on Jack, safety bar against first (lowest) safety stops. turned my back, heard a loud noise, the bike was on it's wheels with jack still under frame. The safety stops that are welded on, sheared off and the jack lowered. realized afterward the fluid was low because the bolt/cap that screws into the bottle was loose so fluid must have escaped (my fault). filled it up, used it but had to go to second lowest position to use safety stops. After a while, it gives up when lifting the bike - bike gets 6 inches off the ground that goes back to ground. have been told bottle is shot. It's collecting dust now …. J&S or Pitbull will replace it.
i have an operator slip up. i was putting my sportster away for winter and finished everything and left the bike on my jack.i wanted to move it to the corner of the garage and was guiding it along happy as a pig in sh**. that when the crack in the floor stopped the jack bike had a wobble and because i had hold of it i got dumb a** lucky. if it would have been my rk it would have been on the floor.from now on put the bike where i want it then jack it up.
