Stop the Shaking
I was reading Cycle Magazine Tech section, and they explained how carbon can build up on piston heads and can cause an imbalance and cause motor shake. The recommended solution was to get a good grade of engine treatment like STP Gunk gone, you know the little bottles you pour in the tank of your car. Well I did this yesterday and today. I put a half a bottle in my gas tank and drove it hard for couple of hours and I can tell a difference at idle. My 2001 FLHTC doesn't shake as bad at idle. I'll let you know if it improves more after the second tank.
Has anyone heard of this before?

can tell you that I use seafoam in mine. bought it used and it had alot of top end noise. seafoam took care of that. now I use alittle in just about tank full, keeps mine running nice. use this stuff in every engine I have. try it, I know you will like it.

Sounds to me that mag was doing a marketting job for an advertiser! I've been riding Harleys almost 40 years now and that is the first time I have heard about that 'problem'! If your bike starts shaking, check the engine mounts. If you want to 'treat' your bike occasionally, simply run it to the redline a few times in the lower gears - that will probably shift any carbon build-up.

Mine was too smooth :/ So I got a 103 Big Bore and a cam now it shakes just right
I did notice on the original piston tops there was quite a bit of carbon. Hmmm, does going from stock lean to fuel enriched make this inevitable ?
I seem to remember as a kid pouring water in the buicks' carberator to steam clean it lol
