Harley Daddy I will politely disagree with your assessment.

A Road King with its sleek hard bags has a much higher coolness quotient then the RKC.

You can alter either into the other ones appearance but the true difference is the s/n once you have one. I know guys with both sets of bags, associative wheel sets, have changed up trim, fenders, lighting, seats to where neither is true to the OE tag so it is just a name tag and a point of start to those of us that alter and mod.

RK has a 17" front wheel. RKC has a 16"er.

First, there is no Road King "standard". There is a Road King and Road King Classic. Sorry, a pet pieve of mine. Anyway, the main differences, as stated above, are the saddle bags and wheels. Here are features of the two.

Road King:
- 17'' front wheel
- 16'' rear wheel
- 28 spoke "Knuckles" aluminum wheels
- Thin white wall tire
- Front fender tip light
- Cruise control - optional ($295)
- ABS and security - optional ($1,195)
- Laced chromed aluminum wheels - optional ($450)
- Hard saddlebags that are lockable from the factory
- Rear bumper
- License plate holder below the tail light

Base Price is $17,699

Road King Classic:
- 16" front wheel
- 16" rear wheel
- steel chromed wire (laced) wheels
- chromed aluminum laced wheels - optional ($450)
- Wide white wall tires
- Cruise control - standard
- ABS and security - standard
- Leather saddlebags that are not lockable
- License plate holder on fender above tail light
- No rear bumper (both fender tips have metal medallions)
- Tooled leather seat with medallion

Base Price is $19,899

The Road King Classic is $2,200 higher in price than the Road King. So it depends upon the "look" that you like and how much money you want to spend. I bought the Road King and paid for the ABS, security and cruise control options. I did that just because I like the Road King better than the RK Classic.

Good luck with your decision.

You forget to mention that on the RKC, there is a tank badge adding to the already superior coolness factor. On the RK, no badge. It has a painted graphic/decal.

You're absolutely right "Harleydaddy", I did forget to mention the tank badges on the RK Classic. However, some of us would consider the "smooth" painted graphic/decal on the Road King preferrable to something that protrudes from the tank:+)

Absolutely One-up! Either way you slice it, RK's kick *** and they are the most beautiful of the the HD's! Best bike out there! Of course, I'm extremely prejudice too! All RK owner's already know that. LOL!

I don't like the "rain catcher" upward slash of the RKC exhaust tips and compare the seats, especially the passenger section. When my wife began touring with me, she described the stock RKC pillion as sitting on the narrow edge of a 2 X 4 after an hour or so. If I remember correctly, the RK passenger seat is less "stylish" but bigger and more comfortable. When the seat begins to hurt after an hour and you have 5 more hours to go, function over style becomes the rule. She is happy on the Ranger seat.

The dealer had a RKC he wanted to sell and I didn't like the spoked wheels, whitewall tires, the exhaust tips, and the leather wrapped bags. He gave full trade credit for that stuff and I turned it into a standard RK including the cast wheels. Just last year I got around to adding the front fender tip light. At least on my machine, the chromy fender tip accents were plastic, not metal. Especially with the speedo on the tank, the cruise is wonderful. It is a LARGE eye shift to check speed. Having the instruments up near the normal line of vision was a large contributor to my son deciding on a Road Glide Ultra. None the less, I love my King.
