Question oil change ?

I have a 2008 annver ultra. I used to have a 93 anniv wide glide. I used to change the oil every fall on the WG. I changed the oil with harley syn-3 on the ultra (ive owned this bike for 2 yrs now) last fall. I then still rode it about 600 miles before putting it up for winter. I think the oil should be ok this spring after sitting but want some opinions. I also want to change over to Mobil 1 v-twin 20 50 syn since its chaper and on sale right now for 7.20 qt. when I switch how do I go about switching out all the old oil to replace with the mobil. Or does it really make that much difference if a little bit mixes. The Harley stuff is just too much to do a oil change. thanks Jeff

Your oil should be fine. As far as switching to another brand of oil and mixing it with the old, that's not a problem either.

If you warm the bike up and then do a complete oil change, there will not be enough oil left in the engine to make any difference when you switch.

Oil is cheap...I would change it after your first spring ride...but that's just me

realizing when the bike sits for a while more oil is at the bottom of the pan and when we fire it up and do a shut down more oil is on the internal walls of the engine, and oil passages, how does firing it up and draining get more oil out....if it even mattered either way?

Warm oil flows better than cold oil. Starting the engine and bringing it to operating temp ensures that all the oil leaves the oil tank.

Additionally, HDs are dry sump engines. Sometimes when they sit for a while the sump (the part of the cases under the crankshaft) fills with oil. If you just drained the oil tank (every HD has one) only that oil would be drained or changed. Starting the bike cycles out the excess oil in the sump back to the tank making it available for draining and changing.

Does that answer what you asked?
