Once you pop your lens covers over the silver dish on the inside has a black rubber seal around it at the top. I modified a metal coat hanger in the shape of a v that had a hook on each end. It takes a good bit of force to over come the seal. Also at the back bottom of each signal you need to remove the rubber seal so you can feed the wires out.

If you are gonna powder coat them you will also need to remove all the wires by taking them out of the molex connector. I've done this job a couple times. Make sure you take note of how the wires are in those connectors and you will need a tool to remove them. some say they have used a paperclip but that never worked for me and I've done a crap load of those connectors changing ape hangars etc. Snap on has a tool for that

I did mine on my 08 SG and never had to remove any wires from the molex connectors. Once the reflective tray is removed from the housing the little white piece that holds the end of one of the wires and the compression spring get set aside, along with the rubber grommet, and the ends of the wires that were in the bulb housings are pulled out. There was never any reason to remove wires from the molex connector. Maybe the 12-13's are setup differently? Also, if you can't find a homemade device to remove the reflector bowl you can use a small pair of snap ring pliers (that's what I used and they worked perfectly). You don't need to waste money on a molex wire removal tool either. A plain old medium sized paperclip works like a champ. It may take you a couple of tries to get the feel for it, but once you get it you can remove wires from any connector as quickly with a paperclip as you can with a $40 tool. I've done a ton of removals with the paperclip method from apes to fender removals, to headlight swaps, etc... and never had an issue.
