Thanks for the feedback. Will let you know what I settle on. Found a guy that modifies the stock mufflers and head pipes (removing the cat). Researching B&E now.

Thanks again

Don

I did the B&E catless head pipe with stock mufflers on the RG and am very happy for now! If I do some more motor upgrades, stock mufflers will have to go.

(mods in sig)
I removed the cat mainly because of heat. I can't give a comparison between slip-ons and intake only vs the addition of catless pipes, but I suspect decatting makes little performance difference during your average cruise. That said, I've noticed a significant improvement over stock with the FM components. I'm a fairly tame rider and can still notice crisper throttle and more predictable response. Before it felt like I was towing a trailer and needed to give the bike a second or two to get going. Now I just twist and go.

I believe the stock header pipe with the cat removed will perform very close to after market 2-1-2 pipes with mild tunes. With the cat removed you have the front and rear tubes going into a collector before splitting. The stock mufflers don't look to be very restrictive and have a good sound with the cat removed. After my Anni reaches 1K I'll install the stage I intake and tune. Then I'll dyno with the decated pipes and stock mufflers.

I would get rid of the cats, extra heat is never a good thing.

everyone says get rid of the cat.. but as far as power loss it is minimal...it will make the bike quieter and the exhaust area hotter...but power wise not much loss (around 1hp),,that said youi can just put on slip ons and a better air cleaner and some type of engine management system and see a fairly large power increase...and then when you can afford it, come back with a new header, or remove the cat to help manage the heat that comes off of it..also don't confuse the cat being hotter with a hotter motor...the motor from the factory is quite lean which makes it run hotter, with or without the cat. if you don't change the lean condition with some sort of fuel controller (power comander, power vision, xied, etc.) the engine will still run hotter than without it....

I am still running the stock exhaust system on my 2012 Electra Glide and have over 10K miles on the bike. The cat is a real heat source and I will get rid of it soon. As mentioned by Billyram about discoloring of any new mufflers you might add. My stock mufflers haven't shown any discoloring so I don't see why a set of slip on's would either if I would decide to go that route.
