trailering
first time trailing my bike. going to tow my bike to ameila island and then ride to daytona and then down the coast. leaving truck in ameila island at a house my brother 's company got rented. i just bought a harbor freight wheel chock and i'm going to put a 6x6 under the bike also but does anyone have any advice on how to ratchet it down or maybe some pictures. my brother's bikes already there along with 4 other guys as they have been working there should be a good time and can stay as long as i want for free.

I use the same chock on my little utility trailer and use the soft type straps over the front fender bolts and then a regular ratchet strap each side for front. Back end gets two more soft straps looped over passenger foot board mounts and ratchet back to a tie down on each side.
It results in a push pull tie down and no shock compression, bike is solid and never moves.
Soft straps have never made any scratches or otherwise harmed the bike in front position.
Have a good trip and safe ride.

I have a 5x10 utility trailer with 24" sides. Put the front tire up against the front and ratchet strapped it down. Turned my wife's bike around and put the front tire up against the ramp gate. Drove from Charlotte to Daytona with no issues.

yes i have the soft straps just didn't really know where to put them at on the front end. i'll tell ya though putting a 6x6 with carpet on it under the frame and pulling it down really tightens it up and doesn't compress the forks. i thought maybe go around the frame, just looking at different ways to lash it down.

I've just put straps around the bars forever but when I picked my last bike up Vegas the dealer guys got all no-no-no and strapped it around the lower triple tree???? Said they have seen bent bars strapping to them??? I've never used a chock. Just ran the front wheel up against a board or front of the bed and seldom even use ratchet straps. Never had a problem???

This is were I put the straps. Pull the forks down about 1/2 to 3/4. Road this way to Daytona and back. The front tire is up against the trailer side.

i've trailerd several times, and have loaned my truck/trailer several times for the same. i screw 2 2x4's in the middle of the trailer, just leaving room for the tires to fit between. board under the frame, and good ratchet tie downs to keep everything happy. the boards keep the tires from getting squirley and moving around...steve

Trailered my bike from Upstate NY to Sturgis this past summer. Put straps around the passenger footboard brackets for in back, and around where the crash bar mounts to the frame for up front. Trailered awesome! Oh, and that's with a $30 HF wheel chock bolted to the floor. That worked awesome too btw!
I would never compress the front forks, or put ratchets around my triple trees. The web straps can scratch the chrome easy after a 30 something hour drive at 70mph. Ask me how I know...
