Default Power Commander Question

I know there are about a bizzilion threads on the Power Commander and I should be able to find anything I want to know. I am ready to give Jammie a call to order and I just want to head this off. It sounds like I will need to get a computer hooked up to the bike while its running to set throttle positions,,,,,,Right ?. If that is the case I think I can arrange to borrow a laptop, would be way easier than trying to haul my tower and monitor to the garage. But if I load the software to that computer am I locked to using that computer in the future.

Thanks for any input

Yes, you need a lap top or very long USB cable. The bike has to be warmed up and running and the PClll program map you want to useopen to set the throttle position on the bike, with the 9 volt battery hooked up. (the battery does not last very long)

You only need to set the idlle throttle position after the bike is hot. You do not have to set the wide open position. You can only load maps from your desktop PC to the the PClll, with the 9 volt battery hooked up, you can not adjust anything else unless it is hooked up to the bike and map running with the 9 volt battery hooked up.

Steve, I didn't set my 100%-throttle position at first, but when talking to DynoJet tech support about other issues I was told that it was as important as the 0% setting. It only takes a second to blip the throttle quickly after hitting the "Reset" button, which then will set both zero and 100%. So you might as well do both, as it takes only about one second more time.

Some have rolled their bikes just outside the window of their computer room and run a long (5M max) USB cable from the computer to the bike. A notebook would be much easier, or if you buy the new digital monitor it might serve this purpose. Not sure if it can replace a computer or not for this purpose. Rather than spend $300 on the monitor, I would find an inexpensive used notebook somewhere. It doesn't need to be fancy to run this software, but it may need XP, 2K, or Vista.
