Ok I have a 2011 RG ultra and am lookng for some information on the Handling differences between the 2 bikes, I bought the RGultra but it does not look like I will be doing any long range 2 up touring! Boughtit to make my better half happy, that was before I found out she just did notlike the long trips. I can take it 500 or more miles at a clip without aproblem but not her. So my question is would the custom be a better bike forshort, say 200 to 250 mile 2 up trips and good for one up for longer trips. Andis there a handling improvement in the lower lighter custom. Looks are not themost important factor to me. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
I have a RG Custom and my friend has a RG Ultra. The ultra suspension and seat are way more comfortable than the Custom, the Custom just looks better to me.
once you take the tourpak off, the major difference (other than cosmetic and the seat) between the 2 bikes is the custom has 12'' shocks, while the ultra has 13''s. the longer shocks will give you a smoother ride. the custom has an 18'' front wheel, the ultra has a 17'' wheel. with the lower profile tire, the overall diameter between the 2 is almost identical (in the .00x range)....
also the benefit that the roadglide ultra has is cruise control and security, abs brakes. i was studying getting the custom, but went ahead and got the ultra because of the cost of how harley packages stuff now. the cruise comes with the abs/security package now from what i understand. you can make your tourpack removable on your ultra, and on cold days, those lowers are really nice to have, as is the cruise control. i'm not sure if roadglide customs come with abs or not, but they sure do look sharp. they're sort of a sharknose version of a streetglide
Its easier to take off what you don't want than to go out and buy what you want.
Plus it's probably more cost effective to get the Ultra, but what do I know...........
