+1 On getting a manual and doing the service yourself. Obviously get the "free" 1k at your dealer but the manual will save you thousands down the road. Manual, tools and a J&S jack have paid for themselves many times over. Have a great trip!

When my '10 RK was due for the 1k service I was quoted a price just about the same as yours. I asked why so high and was told they check and tighten everything. I asked why they didn't do that when I bought the bike as the clutch was out of adjustment and the slack adjusters were loose also the rear wheel was out of alignment plus a couple of small loose nuts. I did all the adjustments and didn't feel the need to have a "highly trained technician" redo what wasn't done in the first place. Never went back. do it all myself and is now out of waranty and is an excellent machine. IN spite of there shoddy assembly.

The $50 for manual $60 for HF jack and $100 for some average quality tools .has saved me thousands .
The exstended service contract i came out ahead a cpl hundred and will be ahead bigtime if anything BIG goes wrong.

I do know my limits and have some things done a buy a pro.
