I went out to TSC and picked up a pair of deer hide gloves. I sprayed them with a water repellent and love them. I have never had them in extreme weather but they are slim and soft. You could always keep a couple sets of nitrile gloves with you. Wear them under your gloves.

Not H2o proof but I run SnapOn Impact mechanics gloves, great padded palm grip, and if they get wet will dry out rapidly. I also carry a set of latex surgical disposable gloves to use as an inners if really necessary - keeps paws dry. Little trick I learned from my dirt bike riding days....

Dishwashing gloves under the main gloves (dish gloves tend to come in "housewifey" colours).

Check out outfitter companies like REI.com or Backcountry.com. They should have exactly what you're looking for.

Try looking up sealskinz.com. These gloves are incredible and were developed for horse back riding in the rain.

when it's 65 degrees and raining i don't care if the my gloves are yellow dishwashing gloves over brown cotton work gloves. I was dry and warm and could use the controls. cost about 10 bucks. worth $100 when you are chilled to the bone. I just bought a black pair, a little heavier similar glove from HD or Lowes for about $10 that go over the brown cotton work gloves.
dont leave home on a long trip without them.

I really like Held gloves. Their not cheap, but they make some of the best gloves on the market (IMO). I think Revzilla carries most of their stuff as well.
