...of all the mods I can think of to do with my bike...adding a 6th gear is the LAST one i would do...no need for it...when HD's had 3 speeds they ran fine... 4 speeds, they ran fine.. 5 speeds they ran fine... 6 speeds they run fine...and when they go to 7 speeds..the 6 speed guys will ask.."should I add a 7th gear?"....marketing...

I agree with the others on this. if your current 5 speed tranny isn't toast i wouldn't mess with it. I'm rarely in 6th gear unless I'm on the interstate and at highway speeds. Don't make sense to spend the $$ to fix something that isn't broke. If your inclined to spend the $$ there is so much more popular "upgrades" to do than the tranny such as Stage 1,2,3,4, mufflers, cams etc.
And as others have said look into the Hydraulic tensioner upgrade versus the gear drive upgrade.

I would say it depends on your riding style and wallet

Yep .... Yes sir ree ... Absolutely ... I couldn't have said ( typed ) it any better ... "grbrown" has hit this right out of the park! Real good advice!

I just did the hyd. Tentioners upgrade on my 99 RK and since I was in there I installed a set of S&S 510 cams and you can def. tell the difference in the mid range. I was happy with my bike the way it was but figured hell I'm in there I mide as well do it. I would waste my money on other things before a 6 speed tranny
