I have had some last 2 years and some 4, but they never died on me in one start up. I could tell when they were getting weaker and then I replaced them.
I say wait. But it's all what make you feel comfortable. I change tires at 50% wear, but that's me.
I don't recall ever being let down by a battery on the road, in half a million miles! They usually give signs that all is not well, for example starting in the morning after a cold night. That is the first clue, when you feel the need to plug in the charger over night, just in case. It starts fine later in the day, because its been warmed up.
I don't see any need to replace it now. The best life I have had is eleven years, the worst was that many weeks.
I was running errands on my 3 1/2 year old bike with the original battery. Started up fine that warm September morning. Stopped at 3 places to get stuff-bike started up fine each time I was ready to leave. Stopped for my final pick up and when I came out to start the bike, the battery was grave yard dead.
I'll be looking to buy a new battery come September 2015. I don't want to be stranded like that again.
some times they will just quit but that is more a defective bat than a wore out one , and that can happen to a new one to , your bat should give signs it is going so you should be ok if you listen to it
Just use a volt meter on it 2-3 a yr when your cleaning the connections on it when it starts to loose voltage start looking for a new one. www.batterymart.com there $100.00 for the same factory battery w/free shipping.

Should I buy a new battery now before trouble ?
Or wait for dead battery along the road somewhere ?
How long have you been running stock battery?............
Hap
I am still running the stock battery in my 09 also. I plan on using it till it starts to take a dump. I do keep the battery on a tender year round when not riding. Twice a year I load test all my batteries. Then check voltage on occasion.
