Greasy goof up
Never fails when yo are in a hurry you cause more work. So I am getting ready for a road trip and thought to grease the neck bearings, I could not find my good grease gun so I used another one laying around the shop. First off while cleaning it and changing the grease cartridge I sliced the tip of my thumb open deep as hell right where the forefinger and thumb meet, right where you need to use your thumb when you are threading in bolts and such. Super glue and duct tape fixed that. Get grease gun ready to go and manage to get it on the zerk and gave it a couple pumps, no leakage so pumping in grease begins. Bike has 20k on it and I had not greased the neck so was not too concerned when it took 20 pumps, got to 26 and thoght to take a look and see if grease was coming out the cups yet. No grease there but the gun nipple slipped or moved a little bit and I had pumped a crapload of red and tacky all over in the Nacelle !! Off comes the headlight assembly and cleanup begins. On the plus side this bike is a Cop bike and has earlier Heritage style bars that were pushed forward just enough to be uncomfortable after several hours so I moved the back all the way and what a difference that made in comfort. Aslo found that when the bike was decomissioned the dealer or cop shop were lazy crap eating sloppy mechanics and left bare cut off wires and the harness flopping so I secured and covered all properly. So good did come out of it. I tell you it is a whole lot easier to remove the headlight to grease the neck.
