I just want to state I am pretty new to the whole touring bike scene and if I say something stupid or obvious, I apologize in advance. I have a 2013 Road Glide Custom and as we all know the stock stereo does not have bluetooth. I like being able to keep my phone in my pocket and stream pandora or itunes music. I have seen some threads about people using the aux port for a USB device but what is ultimately the best option. If it is very expensive, is it better just getting a head unit with bluetooth? This one has blue tooth and seems pretty reasonable. While I am doing it, upgrade speakers?Amp? I assumed marine grade electronics any thoughts?
I would change everything if you're going to do anything. Headunit, amp, and speakers.
This Clarion media player is a good choice... if bluetooth wasn't a major deal you could go with the Sony Marine Grade unit which allows my iPod touch to sit inside the actual radio itself out of the elements (my iPhone 5 will not fit though). you can get an install kit, wiring harness, and module to allow the use of stock handlebar controls at Hawgwired.com as well. The possiblites for amps and speakers is overwhelming so that really all depends on how deep your pockets are. I like Focal for speakers, however they are pricey (for their higher end components) I like the JL Audio XD200/2 amp... which will fit inside your fairing. Just my 2 cents... good luck!
I have the biketronics retro radio kit, biketronics titan II speakers and this head unit http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/ida-x305s/. No Bluetooth needed unless you really want it. The iphone cable is long enough to run from the radio under tank console and seat and into left saddle bag. Plug the phone in and done with it. Worked well with my iPhone 3GS and works with my iPhone 5. For an added bonus I have scala Bluetooth headsets a d talk to siri to change the pandora stations and iPod playlists so I do t need to ever touch the radio. To have Siri change the pandora stations you will need to jailbreak the phone. But that's another topic!
