I'm at a bit of a crossroads, wanted to see if someone can help.
I really want to get an LED brake light and can not decide between the two. I've tried searching and found positive reviews for both, but what I am really after is safety. I have seen BAL lights up close and personal and know it's bright and has flash patterns, but the price difference is $100.00 ($50.00 if I buy the modulator for custom dynamics).
Has anyone seen BOTH in person and can comment? I know BAL owners swear by them and have heard great things about Custom Dynamics as well. I've tried searching the forum all kinds of ways and haven't found a real comparison. Thanks in advance for the help.
i've seen the custom dynamics and the bal. i bought the bal because it's a lot brighter. there are also 24 or 28 different patterns you can adjust for the flash during braking, and the intensity of the taillight too. i've had no experience with the custom dynamics stuff, but my last two harleys have bal's on them.

ok thanks, that's what i was looking for. if they really are that much brighter, i'll just bite the bullet and pay extra.
I can't speak to a comparison. I have not seen the BAL's, but I just bought the Custom Dynamics. They seem bright enough. Definitely brighter than stock. Customer service was good. I did have a question about the harness and they were quick to respond and try to help. Too soon to tell how reliable they will be.
I have the custom dynamics and if I had known about the BAL I would have gotten the BAL, I saw them on a few bikes since I got mine and they are considerably brighter. My Custom Dynamics is brighter than stock and looks better, but it's not a BAL.
I have the BAL and whenI get my next bike it will have one too. They have 3 brightness settings for run/brake and as said above, numerous (20+) patterns for activation. Even here in sunny SoCal I get a lot of good comments on the brightness of it.
I too wanted more visability and especially in the bright sunlight we get here. Also, I live in a rural area and the roads are all dark around these parts. When I hit the brakes those behind me pay attention!! Is it worth an additional $50....Yes, they are that good!!
I could not see paying that much for a BAL or Custom Dynamics unit. So I search and found LED bulbs on SuperBriteLEDs.com. I am using a clear stock style lens and bought an 3157 LED for $19.95. A friend has a Lay Down lens and bought one for $17.95. It has bright running light and blinding when the brakes are applied.
Now my tail light doesn't "Flash" or have Turn signals built in the light. But I didn't spend $150 and up. I didn't need to and still have a great tail light.
I do have the Badlands Brake/Turn/Running Module installed.
