The cigarette lighter must have fallen off my bike, or got stolen. I didn't like having an open hole, where water and dirt could get in, so I bought the HD rechargeable flashlight that fits in there.
When I opened the package and read the directions it says it is not waterproof, and don't let it get wet. Seriously? The main reason I bought it was to keep water out of the outlet.
"Does anybody have this flashlight? Did you have problems riding in the rain with it? What about washing the bike"?
I don't have the flashlight.
I don't remember any rain hitting this area where the cigarette light is on my bike. I know I wouldn't hold the water hose near that area if I could help it so it doesnt get wet. Why would anyone when washing their bike hit this area using water anyway? I mean, do you really use the water hose in that area to wash your bike; it gets that much dirt down there??
Bring the light back and explain to them it's not what you thought it was (waterproof).
I asked the dealer if anybody had problems riding in the rain with it and he said no. I don't spray water on that area when I wash the bike, but I am sure water bounces off the gas tank and gets on the lighter socket. I have also ridden in some gully washers where water is pouring on the whole bike. I think the flashlight looks pretty water resistant when plugged in. Just wondering if anybody who has it has any comments.
Interested in thread. I saw the light at the dealer but couldnt bring myself to drop 30 bucks on it without looking at reviews first. How bright is the light? It might make more sense to buy a 3 pack of LED flashlights for 18 bucks at costco and throw one in the bags. Maybe just replace the lighter or plug the hole with a rubber grommet?
Shoot Ron, I bought one just like that at a gun shop for I think 10 bucks. But alas, it didn't have an HD packaging.... Sorry and hope it holds out for you. Also sucks that it is possible someone stole your lighter. I really hate thieves.

Probably fell out. Most people don't even know there is a lighter there. I think I will get that cover, if it is still made. And only keep the flashlight in there to charge.

Well I found this on here, that I could have got for $1.

So I decided to buy 91844-97 which was the $1 socket cover that comes in the HD 12v supplemental power outlet kit. I installed in on my cigarette lighter and don't have to worry about putting the element somewhere. Now I can just pop up the cover and plug in whatever it is I'm plugging in. I wish the folding tab on the cover was a little shorter as it is crunched up while closed, but it's doable. You would think the MOCO would put these $1 jobs on all the tourers and make the 5% of the people that actually probably use the lighter element purchase it as a $15 accessory!
The light is bright, and well focused. Functions as a strobe, which could be useful in an emergency. My dealer had a 20% off sale this weekend, so it was $24.

I hate to say this. I think the plug in flashlight will make a more enticing item to thieves than just putting a plug in the hole or even a replacement lighter from the auto parts store.

I thought that. But I always lock my bike in left lock. I didn't even know I had a cigarette lighter the first few months I had the bike. Like I said, I'll probably get the Harley Davidson 91844-97 SOCKET COVER, and just use the socket/flashlight when charging.
