Used bikes, question
There is a lot of attraction in buying the newest bike you can afford, however my inner me says that you can also buy the least expensive one in your list and have over $4k to play with! Between us we can turn that bike around and substantially improve it, while leaving some of that cash in your pocket.
Buying the older bike means you have some money left over to customize it. Sad to think about that I could have had mine paid off for what I have added to it over the years.
The forged crank is nice. The 2002 also have the delphi injection over the magnetti. That is worth it there. If you want ABS and the new frame then it is worth the money mainly for the ABS. I don't think the new frame was that much of a difference. The only reason I would upgrade is for the ABS and larger stock engine.

I'm looking at getting a used ultra and have found 3
2002 with 15k miles for $10.4k, rear speakers don't work (big deal) more than
likely the wires got pinched.
2002 with 4k miles for $12k obo
These two are in great shape, at least body wise.
Then the wife showed me this one too,
2009 with 36k miles for 15k
I am very handy with tools, been wrenching on all of my vehicles, bike, cars
and my trucks.
What one would you think about?

I would get either of the 02's. 36k for miles plus more money kills that deal for me. Now you may find an 09 with 10k miles for $16k I would jump at that. Yeah everyone with an 09 or better can point out all the pluses of it vs the last generation, but the older bikes are nice too and get the job done and everything you want to do.
Besides that girl at some bar's bike night won't know whether it is an 02 or 09, just that you got a HD.
My wife too doesn't know a 02 from an 09

The miles haven't hurt the 09 if it has been maintained properly, but I'd negotiate the price to offset a compensator replacement if it hasn't been done already. 36K is borrowed time for the stock compensator.
If those are the only three choices I would probably go for one of the older bikes. Lots of savings. Plus no matter how well a new one rides, that tank on the newer bike just dont look right...save the extra cash for your personal mods etc...
