Thanks to this forum I have spent way more money on upgrades to my bike trying to make it "mine" than I had ever originally inteded to. I feel like it is going to be never ending! I am in my mid 30's and have two children and feel like a selfish as**hole because all my "extra" money goes to my bike. It is my sanity and all but is there kind of rehab for this?

You just gotta ask yourself what you bought the bike for. Is it to occupy yourself and got nothing better to do.....or ride it as much as possible? Your not going to be able to do both unless your retired and got lots of time to spare. So, put a couple parts on and ride it for awhile.....etc it will slow the insanity and you won't be alienating yourself with the family calling yourself names. Only you can control the madness.

Only you can answer that question. Is there a wife in the equation? Are the kids lacking for anything? Do you spend time with the kids? Quit beating yourself up and enjoy life.

Yes, I do have a wife and she likes to ride, if we can get someone to watch the kids. I love my family and its not like I am never around. I love my kids and wife and spend alot of time with them. I just feel wrong spending money that would otherwise benefit the family, for my own expense's.

I needed to get this off my chest. Thanks for the comments. I am going to work on setting a budget or something along that lines like suggested, enjoy life and just ride instead of worrying what I put on my bike.

If you feel bad about spending money on your bike and not your family, I say you are living your life wrong...I would get rid of the things that make you feel guilty and unhappy...So my friend it looks like you will being getting a divorce and she is going to get the kids...There really is no reason to fight it, and don't waste you time feeling bad for the wife and kids, as I am sure some other great guy will come along and treat your kids as his own and take REALLY good care of that lovely wife of yours...

This was pretty harsh Mr Fikser, but I agree I don't see this ending well.

I didnt really see it as harsh, rather a reality if the same path continues.

Easy, stop spending all the excess cash on the scoot. Budget extra spending based the value of the person. Assign the kids a value of 50% and place half the extra cash in an envelope to be spent on them only. Give the wife a 30% priority and place her 30% in an envelope. Give yourself 20% to be spent on whatever you want (this is where the bike comes in).

Now there is no guilt. Everyone in the family has value and you placed them first without excluding your mental health.

Maybe your percentages will change over time, but everyone including you deserves some of the extra pleasures the family can afford.

there are alot of things that could be worse , I have 2 bad habits , I smoke and have my bike , I don't drink , gamble or run around , allthough all our kids are grown we all have to have something so just cut back and do a budget or just quit spending on the bike and just ride it , you still spend on gas , ins , payment maybe
