Default Why do a stage 1

I have 2008 street glide, i love the bike, and I keep getting told to do a stage I kit. New exhaust, power commander v, high flow air filter. I am told the bike will run better, sound better and will gain horse power.
Why else should I do the installation?

That's about it.
Runs better and a little cooler.
Sounds better and has a little more power.

better gas milage, and you get to choose better looking mufflers too

ps consider power vision instead of power commander

Default If It Ain't Broke

It's a debateable topic. My feeling has been that I'm not buying a hotrod, and if I wanted it to be I'd do a lot more than intake and mufflers! I swapped out the mufflers on my Road King to get a little different style and a little more rumble out of it. I could have done any number of things to get more power but I just wasn't interested! I added a Fuelpak because it got a slight decel pop to it, problem solved.

I will say this. If you are planning on doing any performance work to get a gain in power, the first thing you will want to change will be the intake and exhaust - hence stage 1. If you're happy with the bike the way it is, leave it alone. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!

So you can pass when riding two up. And go up grades while maintaining your speed.

these bikes really do run lean from the factory...even if you don't do a AC and exhaust you should do a controller of some sort (PV, PCV, Xied, ect.) just to help the motor run cooler and more to its design potential....an AC and exhaust, will make a much bigger difference in power, although you will have a better running bike with or without out them...

Winner....Winner...Chicken Dinner!!!!!!

If you are doing any touring riding 2 up or loaded with baggage, these things need more power. Factory settings are too lean and restrictive. If you are just cruising around town, then like jeffrey said, if you like it the way it is leave it.

That pretty much covers it. Like others said, the extra power is always handy for 2-up touring, passing, steep grades, or just the occasional desire to twist the wick. If you never find yourself in any of these positions or wanting more power for any other reason then by all means, leave well enough alone.

It seems that you already know this?

What else is it that you want to be sold on?

It really makes no difference to us, one way or the other what you do.
It's your ride...

However, here's the advice I will give you.
Do the stage 1, and if you're happy leave it like that.

If you're not happy, put it back to stock.

How's that sound?
