Question fork oil

how ofton does the fork oil need to be adressed??? 2005 uc 42k,, dont know if it has ever been changed as i bought it used last year,,seems ok but i have changed all oil atleast 4 times and never did the forks yet,,is it hard to do?? thanks

Do a search for "maintenance schedule". You should find a PDF you can download. I'm not at my computer, or I'd find it for you. Added: This is the thread where I got my copy of the pdf, but none of the links are working now.

The maintenance schedule says 50K but after changing that stuff at 50K.......My schedule will be once per year from now on. Only takes about an hour at most and I am gonna recommend you change it at 25K versus the books saying 50K.

I do mine every 10000 miles. It needs at that point.

And use the SE oil. Less front end dive.

+1 on 10,000. I just did mine and it was a dark sludge. Cheap to do and only took 15 minutes or so.

mine is a 2005 ultra classic,, does it have that cartridge in the left fork?? and if it does can i still change the oil WITHOUT removing the left fork// and do the top fill method?? drian and pump forks a few time to get all the oil back in,, or do ireally have to remove the left to get all the oil out??

yes..cartridge left fork. cartridge left style sucks. monotubes in my garage waiting for me to get off my ***. i change the fatboy every other year. fork oil gets nasty fast. i use the SE HEAVYDUTY......steve

Funny thing, just talked to my indy about this, unless you feel poor ride, not necessary to do it as often as people stated. But to each his own. I change fluids in 3 holes every 5000. Some do it every 2000. One bike I went 40000 before fork oil change. Not here to judge. Just passing my opinion.
