I had Road Kings for 8 years and switched to a Road Glide. I spent 2 and a half years trying out probably 5 different windshields and deflectors trying to beat the buffeting and the only thing that worked for me (I'm 5'10") was a shield the size of a picture window. I think for me the windshield was too far away allowing the wind to wrap back around it. Couldn't stand that look or looking through the shield, so I finally gave up and got a bat wing. Best move I ever made. I've been all over the country on my RK's and actually found it to be a better ride than the RG ever was. Of course, that is ONLY my experience. There are hundreds of guys on this forum that love their RG's and rightfully so. It just wasn't for me. But, just be careful. If you test ride the RG and are bothered by any buffeting issue, it's not necessarily true that simply changing windshields will solve the problem. I've been there and could not do it! Good luck.

So funny. I'm 5-10 as well, I have a Road Glide Ultra and I have zero issues with wind buffetting, in fact I'm thrilled with that aspect of it.
Maybe its the stock stuff on an Ultra that make the difference? Hard lowers, the engine guard wind deflectors and the higher windshield (tho I now have a 13" LRS (1" lower than stock) medium tint that I'm very happy with)
If in doubt ----- DONT.
It could be a large $$$$ mistake. Think about renting one for a day or two, so you spent $200.00+, it will be cheaper than the loss of $$ and time trying to reselling it.
The fact that your asking the question tells you your answer.....too many doubts and you shouldn't....rethink everything before you sign and rent everything before you buy....let us know which way you went.
My opinion is probably biased but I would have opted for a new Road King. I don't like fairings, yes I had a 2011 Ultra Limited. I don't like all that crap out in front of me. I hear the buffeting on the RG is bad and takes a lot to get rid of it. My 11 RKC fits me perfect and could care less about a radio.
Ditto. (Except I didn't own an Ultra. I'd never buy a bike with a fairing)
The fact that you're asking the question should give you pause. Go rent each model for 1/2 day each, then make your decision. Most dealers will take the cost of the rental off your purchase price. Simple answer.
Thanks for all the points. This has been a long time coming as I knew I made a mistake with the Fat Bob right off the bat. The Street Glide is not in picture, love the look but to cramped, just not comfy for me. The only 2 that fits is the Glide and King. I've pretty much decided I'll riding home black Road Glide from the coast in the morning. Damn I hate having to ride that fuggin Bob 100 miles to the dealer in the morning but it'll be worth it.
