I have a 05 Roadking with the leather bags. I bought some hard bags off of a 2011. They fit on the bike nice but the brackets do not line up. I have tried to move them around and there is no way that is going to work. I called the parts department in a few HD and they are useless.
All you need to do is loosen up the brackets that hold em on and reposition them a bit
Thanks but I tried that already. The rear bracket gets close but the front is almost an inch to short so even if i could line it up the pin wouldn't reach.
I do know that 02 and 09 will interchange with a slight adjustment of the brackets. Have a set of 02 on the 09 right now and have put the 09's on the 02.
The mounting brackets have the same part number for both the Road King standard (with hard bags) and the classic. You just need to get them in the proper location.
A neighbor of mine has a 2003 Classic that has Hard bags on it. We were doing some work on it and he asked me about the hard bags rubbing on the supports and it looks like the guy who owned it before him did not position the bags / pin mounting points properly and the bags are not centered on the support after it turns to mount to the rear frame. Looks like a small adjustment to the rear will fix the problem but it could be easily overlooked. Sorry if it sounds confusing.
I had trouble adjusting mine (05 FLHRS).
I ended up moving the front 1/4 spacer (behind the bracket) to the rear, and ditched the rear 1/2" spacer.
After that, it still took some adjusting, but finally got them to line up.
Does your bike have the spacers like mine did? If so, try taking them off.
If so, just wondering if they are my bags that were stolen just outside of Detroit while at a Tigers game last year. If you find my bike's original ownership slip in them, send them back to me, you can keep the bags
