Default Error codes

Do the error codes automatically display if you have a problem or should I go through the process for checking them every so often. I have an 11 Road King Classic. Thanks.

There is an app for your smart phone called V-twin. Download it and it should help.

Generally, your ECM will let you know if it has encountered a problem by turning on the "check engine" light. If you see that light while riding, I would certainly check for codes, even if it goes out on its own. But absent a check engine light, I wouldn't think there would be a reason to check for codes.

And for those who read this and be easily confused, I'm not talking about seeing the check engine light when you first start the bike. That's a light bulb test.

Thanks for the info. I was reading a thread the other night about how to check them, so I did it, really just to try it out and got no codes. So basically no need to check for codes unless the engine light comes on. Thanks again.

I had p0131 and p0151 that never triggered the check engine light. I cleared them and they were back after every time I started the bike. Found the problem, so now I check every so often.
