Have to agree with the above posts. Regardless of your pre-approval through Harley, I'd go the private route. Use a credit union or other financing. You're looking at bikes in Spring, you're not going to see dealers be very flexible in pricing, as it's now the "supply and demand" season.

Honestly, all three bikes are not bad choices, but I think the dealer pricing is high on 1 and 3..

Good luck.

I will caution you to make sure the cam chain tensioners have been changed on that motor to the upgraded ones. At 25K they should come out of the bike, by 35 you really want them out of the bike, by 45 you are on borrowed time.

Best mod for that bike... dump the crap HD suspension, go with progressive fork cartridges and progressive 440 or better shocks. Night and day difference trust me
Good to know. Can I look athe the cam tensioners without pulling it apart and I so what does the new style look like? I put the progressives on my last bike and loved it. Anything else the RG is lacking on, how are the breaks on this bike?

I picked up my 04 EGC off craigslist for $8900 with 14k on it. Everyone I have talked to says I got a darn good deal. Had a Indy put on my apes and their mechanic and service manager said it surprised them when they test rode it. As far as I know it's all stock internals. At the time all I had put on it was the Samson slip ons. Previous owner had the true duals put on.

Keep looking the deals are out there. And test ride different bikes see which style best suits you. In the end it's your comfortable and your bill. The dealer is going to mark up $3-5,000 over what they gave for it. Good luckk

if it were me I would buy the house first, which will help your credit and you can get a better interst rate on a loan...Also it will put you out of the REALLY hot bike buying time and you should be able to get a better deal on a bike...I understand, it is springtime and itch to ride is driving you mad..but I would still wait, and stay away from the dealers..they will make you feel like a hungry vampire in a blood bank...

How does the 88 stack up against the 96? My last two bikes were a 110ci Honda VTX and a 1300 Hayabusa. I know neither motor will compare to the Hayabusa but I'm worried that if I get the 88 that I'll be disappointed and wish Id have ponied up the extra cash and goten the 96ci. I've been approved for a bike through Harley so not looking at eBay or Craigslist. It's good to know that the 02 is a solo bike. It runs like a champ, I was just worried that it wouldn't run for much longer.
If they approved you so will a bank you will seriously over pay at a dealer for used bike. For the money you are ready to spend you prob can get a lot lower mileage bike

I should have clarified... My wife wants a house so that means he payment for a new bike would mean I wouldn't be able to save as much money every month for a house as I would like so I have two choices . I can not get a bike and save all my money for a house or I can get a bike for $10-14K. My wife thinks I'm nuts for looking at used Harleys when for that price I can get a new Honda or Suzuki. I would rather have a 10 year old Harley than a new Honda. If I cant find a used Road Glide in my price that I like I will skip a bike for another year.... Which I don't want to do. I just sucks finding a bike in the spring time for a good deal.

I contacted my Credit Union to see if I could get $15,000. I saw a 2008 RG with 8k on the clock with pipes, air box, and PCIII for $14,500 on CL. They are reviewing my paperwork. I got instantly approved for a home loan (as long as I have the down payment money) but they need 24 hours to review my file to see if I can barrow 15K for a bike??? really???

I found another bike at a different dealer...2006 silver RG with 49,000 miles on it. Pipes and a few other goodies for $11,000. I'm going to stop and take a look after work today but I'm going to wait until I hear back from My credit union so I can look private party.
