I have the Skid Lid. Love it. I've spent over $300 on Harley half helmets and ended up with a $45 Skid Lid. It fits low on my head and doesn't move when I'm riding.
I only spent 90 on the Harley half helmet and i think the skid lid was 40.the skid lid is no less of a mushroom than the Harley helmet.they look the same on.i have the smallest skid lid its flat black,no visor .i will try to weigh both helmets tomorrow.
I have a couple $20.00 half helmets and a bunch I paid considerably more for. I also have a P Touch label maker and have been thinking about making a label but prolly would be large bold font with a question mark. DOT??? or DOT THIS!!!
Unfortunately, with safety certification comes bulk/size. Hard to find "slim" DOT brain buckets...previous posts list the more popular ones. Wouldn't risk riding w/non-DOT lid - LEO's do checks and you'll have to wait for ride, or someone to bring DOT helmet before you get released...not a fun wait.
Take a look at Vega XT, they're not too bulky looking. If you want to get creative with a lid you can't stand, stick a purple mohawk fur strip or some rubber horns on it. Then no one will notice it.

I agree completely, though there is a wide disparity in helmet weights. I've been through this same issue though with full face helmets; my wife has a bad neck so we needed the lightest helmet available and wanted FF protection. We ended up getting her a Kaos carbon fibre helmet that weighs 1100 grams and it is 1.5 lbs lighter than her old helmet. It's a european helmet so has ECE 22.05 certification rather than D.O.T. but that's acceptable here. Price was a surprisingly cheap $300.00. The only other option was a BMW Sportintegral carbon fibre helmet at $2000 plus dollars which weighs 900-1000 grams.
I have the Outlaw Ultra Slim fiberglass & really like mine. I heard they were having issues with the CERT on there carbon fiber style. CSS FXD, why did you send yours back????
The Vega XTS Naked is not bad. You will want to try on in a shop. I went from a M on my last helmet to an XS. WorKs for me and no mushroom head. Price is right as well.
