A friend with a 2012 HD Trike put on a decatted head pipe last Friday, and the fact
that another friend of ours cut re welded it back together to make it looks like stock.
A nice improvement in sound from the stock mufflers is a plus too.
Not at home to take pics but I used a bit extender and drilled it out through out end of exhaust. Really wasn't that hard to do just a little time that's all
I like the idea of drilling instead of cutting but what could happen if you did not get all the cat material out? Could any of this be pulled back into the cylinder? When you drilled could you see into the pipe well enough to know you got all the material out?
I haven't ran clear thru this thread so this may have been posted already... but Wildpigpipes.com has de-cated head pipes. Very, very reasonable and excellent service. They actually cut the complete cat out at the factory bungs and weld in a new pipe.
1 inch x 16 inch long paddle bit and drill that baby out, takes about a half hour. and you can get it all out. do a search on here there is alot of pictures.
Well O can't get photo bucket to start so I can't post the pics I just took. Just take your time. I was prepared to cut and reweld but didn't have to so I was ahead of the game I thought
2013 flhtk I just decated my stock header. I thought about drilling but then looked at the 2 into 1 portion of the header where the cat is located. After doing the window method of decat. I can't see any way you could possibly drill out the entire cat. The angles just don't work for the rear cylinder header pipe section.
As for the sound and heat. Noticeable drop in heat, minor elevation in sound volume. But it did get a deeper sound. I just put on CFR knock off slip ones($218 shipped). Huge difference in sound both volume and depth of tone. Maybe a little too loud?
