Default WO508 Installation on 2012 Road King

I'm looking into getting WO508s installed on my 2012 Road King. The guys at the shop wanted at least $900 to do it so I'm thinking I should look into this myself.

I've done a few searches and haven't been able to find any write ups on this. Does anyone have a link to a thread or a video that gives a good step-by-step on how to do this?

Appreciate the help in advance!

Pretty easy to do the swap if you just take your time. The hardest part is running the wires through the bars. As far as cables and such your manual will show you how to install those. Just pay attention on how everything is ran and pay close attention, you'll get it. Have you checked YouTube at all?

there is a thread stuck at the top of this section specifically on wild one bars and just do some searches for bar changes because there are plenty. Plenty of info on here it just takes a bit of reading different threads and they may not be specific to the year and bars you are installing but it's all the same.

I just finished installing 518's on my 2010 and all the info came from this forum. Read and take notes of what others have done, both right and wrong. When you tear it apart make notes and take photos as you go along. It's not really that hard, just give yourself plenty of time and do not rush it. I did it over a couple days so I wasn't spending a day on the project and trying to rush.

Thanks for the input. I'll check YouTube for a how to guide. The issue I have with the "sticky" is that it's 15 pages or more of everyone's input but nothing is definitive. I looked through about 80% of that and found results seem to vary. If I do the swap, I'll try to document it and post it.

While it is not necessarily a hard job, it is a time consuming one. A person with reasonable good mechanical ability should be able to complete the handle bar change in a weekend.

I finished mine in a day.

A competent tech should be able to do the job 4 to 6 hours. With an average shop rate being $75.00 to $95.00 an hour a job cost of $350.00 to $500.00 Plus Parts required.

Another factor is the type of brakes. Bleeding Standard hydraulic brakes can be done by most people and shops. However, ABS system my need some special equipment.

The clutch cable can be one of the most difficult parts of the job and may require partial removal of the exhaust.

Changing the handle bars is probably the biggest changes you can do to your bike to improve the comfort. However the choice of handlebars is critical. Height is only one factor. The other two considerations are width and wrist all.

All I had to remove were the heat shields and used a long ball allen to get the trans cover off.

Thanks. Not all of these are on this forum and the one that is deals with Heritage bars. Read that one. WO508s have different dimensions and may require wiring or other changes which was the intent behind the search. I hadn't checked into YouTube (as mentioned in my second post) as I was looking for actual write ups on here.

I suppose I'm used to the old CJ and Jeep Wrangler forums. Those guys do step by step write ups on how to do step by step write ups! I got spoiled!
