Exclamation Weeping Starters

I have an 07 Ultra, that to date has had (4) starters in stalled. Each has lasted between 2-4-10-16 weeks and all have begun to leak oil (in some cases) poured oil from the weep hole at back end of unit. Each time, I've replaced inner primary seal as well as the large O-ring on the starter neck. I know that the chain case vents through the tranny, and have no problems there. Have been told to stop using aftermarket starters and go with HD. At $385 each is tough pill to swallow. Had one brain surgeon tell me that the chain case was pressurizing, and to try (drill-tap-and barb) the inner primary along with vent hose to cure (NOT!) Chaincase oil level is correct, but still drowning starters. Out of answers, and looking for a cure.

I dont know the answer to your starter problem but there is no way for the chain case to become pressureized.

Let the dealer install an oem starter with the understanding that if it leaks, they're gonna fix it until it doesn't!

The intel that you are all offering up, leads me to believe that it is going to be to my advantage to swallow the pill on my plate and spring for a real HD starter and stop buying aftermarket. Tomorrow is a new day, and will end with a new HD starter. Will repost on the outcome. Thanks!

I had the same problem. I bought a used starter off eBay and it fixed it.

Most of the time the leak is caused because the pinion gear shaft bearing on the starter clutch does not have an oil seal on it. The oil leaks past the bearing and drips thru the hole and onto the transmission. If that's your problem replace the clutch.

Actually yes, one was an 'All *****' one 'Ultima' and two (2) 'Spyke'. Now that I have a good collection of them, I believe that I'll address the pinion shaft seal repair. As before, I'll post results. Thanks to all for the input.
