I gotta 99 electra with Tc 88. My starter plunges but don't spin. What gives? Anyone out there drop some knowledge on me?

Yes sur! Took derby cover off. Sounded like it was spinning and a loud click. All I seen happen was jackshaft engage. But no spin!

 

Your starter clutch is bad. Ditch the OEM one and get an Allballs unit.

Did that happen to you

 

The starter clutch or "sprag clutch" is a one way bearing that cranks the engine over but once the engine starts it spins freely. When they start to go bad you usually get hot start grinding then after a while you get nothing like you are seing now.

 

Ive replaced 4 in my bike over 118 thousand miles.
