I wave when it is safe to do so without compromising control of the bike. I wave when I can - 90+% of the time. I don't wave on the Tail of the Dragon.
I'm a new Harley owner and today was the first warm sunny day of the 2013 season so I had to get my bike out. Because I learned a long time ago that most cycle accidents occur because the cars don't see us, I wear neon jacket and helmet. Today I noticed that a few Harley riders didn't wave but all the non Harley riders did. I wondered if my attire was the issue. I wondered if Harley riders just assume that if you don't wear black that you can't be riding a Harley. Harley riders from my experience tend to not acknowledge non Harley riders.
Yeah, don't sweat this one. We military folk have to wear the reflective gear & helmets so on my way to and from work I get less waves than when tooling around in my leathers when off duty. To each their own, some folks are just that way and honestly really don't care if they don't wave back. It's their perrogative.
I wave at every 2 & 3 wheeled bike, farmers in the field, truckers who give me space and anyone else who shows common courtesy on the road. I'd ike to think it goes a long way to building a memory snapshot in their heads...hopefully they'll look for others and keep us on the brain. If it helps them see even one of us (you) then it was worth it.
I'll wave whenever it is possible. I don't care who is waving, even if it is a three legged double amputee on a tricycle waving from the sidewalk. Nothing wrong being friendly to people who are being friendly to you. I can't catch them all though, so don't be offended if I miss waving to you. I'll catch you next time.
I'm with you jj......the green hand sales pitch is extremely odd, or am I over thinking that as well LOL
I wave at all bikers just about all the time (except when safety is a factor). When 2 up my wife waves at everything. Bikes, cars, trucks, people walking (or just standing), kids, dogs and horses. She is just a happy camper to be on the back of the bike!
