How does the Fuel Moto level b heads compare to other heads out there?
I did the level B heads on my 2003 Softail when I did the FM 98" kit this winter. The heads, while everything is apart, are worth the extra expense.
In your case, you won't see an design improvements as I did in regard to valve springs, but the heads still receive a full valve job as well, bumping up to bigger intake and exhaust valves.
I can't speak directly for the 107 kit, but I do think you'll be extremely pleased with the FM product.
Regarding the install, FM has several videos of each phase of the install, and coupled with a service manual, it's not a difficult job at all. Timely, perhaps, but not difficult.
Send your heads out and do the cams. Should be around $2K installed and ya won't miss those 4 cubes.
Yep 4 cubic inches isn't worth the extra $$. If you sit down and think about it, 4 CI will net about 5-6 more Hp Max. thats a lot of $$ for 4 CI and little return.
I'd put that $$ in the heads, cams and anything else that would help and you will more than likely net that 5-6hp any ways.
I just talked to the my dealer and for cams, and have my heads worked over and install with dyno they said right at $2,500. I think I may just go the route of fuel moto with cams and their level b heads leaving it at a 103. Looks like I should get around 105hp and 115tq.
When I built my top end a little over a year ago, I went from 103 to 107 only because I was going to change from the cast flat tops to forged high compression pistons in any event, so it didn't cost any more to rebuild the 103 top end vs increasing displacement to 107.
If you're planning on installing 107 flat tops, just leave your pistons and jugs alone, and put the money into your heads. You'll get better results with a well built 103 than you will with a 107 that has mediocre heads.
Get yer heads done and cam .keep the co m. pression at 10:1 or a tad lower. Tman torqster or a Red Shift 527 would work nice. A 31 tooth Baker pulley would top off a nice tune..... Good luck.
I did the FM kit in my 2011 SG did the 107 with the 555 cams and the Bheads 113hp and 123tq well worth it. Got 20000 miles and no problems. Its worth the 4ci. Its a proven kit. Just my 2$
I guess I will talk to Jamie and take his advice. If it is not much more to just go ahead and have the 107 then I will just have it done at the same time. I too think they have a proven kit and have put a lot of time into getting it all figured out.
How far in advance did you have to book your bike for the build?
called in feb and got it done in june. They are great to deal with they even let us use his jeep while he worked on bike. You wont be dissapointed this is so fast and smoomth. They have more cam choses now that work well to. Talk to him he knows his ****.
There are a lot of Indys out there,Jamie is a up standing guy great to deal with and depending where your location is there are a few around that an build and tune very important BVBOB is on the west central side of wi,Aharp is in south central wi,and fuel moto is east central wi,This time of year is a little back up because of the time of year,I use BVBOB not to take away from the others. He has worked, builded, tuned all of my scooters so I know his stuff real world result, they all run great IMHO IRONMIKE
