Did you ever get this figured out? I have the same issue after my ape install.

I've seen all the answers on this one and most are logical conclusions. Problem is I have encountered that exact same thing twice. It was NOT the grip binding on the housing or any such thing. I thought this also both times and lubed and adjusted it several times with no progress. Both times it turned out to be the actual TBW unit. If you want to make sure it is the TBW, remove the grip and turn the small gear on the end of the TBW. You will find that is is "gritty" feeling and not smooth at all. I ended up replacing both of the with new TBWs and they worked fine then. All the wire adjusting, wire pulling, grip adjustments were not the answer.

I've found the same to be true. I've tried darn near everything I can think of...no luck. Just waiting to save up the cash to have the repair done. As Gunnysgt said, I removed the grip and the actual TBW itself actually feels gritty when I turn it. Nothing impeding nor pinching.

Thanks for the replies. I figured it just needs to be replaced. I too have tried the laundry list of adjustments with no real help. I guess it's off to the dealer...

I've been told that the repair is about $300: $100 for the new extended TBW and $200 labor because they have to fish it into the 16" chubby's. please let me know what you get quoted/pay for the repair.

If I'm remembering correctly, a new TBW unit cost me $60-$80..... I left the wires already in the bars there, and soldered my new TBW unit to those wires..... Been running strong for 6 months, 2,000 miles....

I ended up screwing around with this long enough and jus ended up pulling the TBW and replacing it with a new one...turned out the TWB was defective ad the dealer replaced at no charge. When I asked them what they'd do about all the time I spent screwing with this...we all had a good laugh!

Now if the temps can get a bit warmer that -14 degrees (w/o wind chill) I could astually test it out!

How tight is "too tight"? I snug the screws down pretty tight to help keep the whole thing from spinning. I thought if the two parts of the casing were flush it would spin freely. Man I got a bunch of head scratching to do tonight. Do you use thread locker on it to keep the screws from backing out?
