Default Volt meter

Anyone out there have a volt meter in their bat wing spiking back and fourth?but not at a idle?

and what was the out come?

My initial "diagnosis" would be a bad connection somewhere. I'd take apart both battery cables, at both ends, clean them and put them back together. I might also try disconnecting the gauge connections, cleaning them and putting them back together again.

A dancing needle would indicate a poor connection. When at idle (a constant minimal reading) it wouldn't be as apt to show. Start off by looking for the obvious.

Couldn't say it better. Start looking for a loose or corroded dirty connection.

I'd agree in saying "Houston we have a problem." Good advice fm jeffreydsilver...start there.

I'd throw a volt meter on your battery to see if it's a regulator or charging issue by seeing what the voltmeter is doing while your needle bounces.

If you wInd up needing a new volt gauge I'll give you the one I took out of my 09 flhx.
I wanted a Dakota digital readout not the hd guess your voltage type.

I have seen that happen with a battery with a short in one cell...so you might want to get your battery checked..

Thanks for that Mrfiker...I'll check that 1st as I do all my joints/plugs with elero grease...its started happening after i wash the bike at a car wash...thinking maybe water got in the reg. or alternator plug....can't check it until i get back next Thursday...just wondering if it was a short or not.... it is acting like one....
