I just did a cam swap at 22000 miles and was no where near service manual spec of 50% wear to replace. So, I finished cam job and have at least 20k miles to go on the little bastards. I was prepared to spend the extra $100 if needed, but I'll put that $100 into a fuel processor or a hooker.... J/K....I'll spend it wisely.

Nice thing on the older bikes is you can pull the cover off and see both (dental mirror for back one). Easy and cheap to do. The newer bikes, it's hard to see the back one. I had McDermots HD in Lake George NY check mine. They take the cover off, pull a bolt and put a camera in to see the back one. Mine were still good after 25k, amsoil. Not worth the risk not to check them...I'll have them checked again at 40k. Well worth the hundred bucks...vs a new motor...
