Default How long before retune with PV

I put a stage one AC, FM 4.5 Pro Tours and 09 head pipe on my 11 Limited and got a open loop map from Fuel Moto. I just welded in new bungs for the OEM o2 sensors and did a Dyno Tune Basic log run and reflashed the ECM. How long should I run the revised tune before I can retune again?

Default Tune

You can imediately continue to tune..tune flash, data log, continue till youre 2-5% thats about it unless you really want to get into it like some of the pros..Scooter

I don't have the PV but I've done a lot of tuning adjustments using a PCV and AutoTune. I'm sure some of the same principles apply.

Early on I did "trim runs" a minimum of 16 miles. The 16 miles just happened to be a nice route from my house where I could put the bike through it's paces. Some surface streets, some freeway, and some canyon passes. Always get the bike to operating temp before doing any tuning runs.

As I continued to fine tune the bike I extended the length of the runs to 50-100 miles or more.

And finally, except for very early on, I never arbitrarily accept any trims based on any single run. I'll collect data for several runs (8 is the number of runs I use now), analyze the data, and come up with a statistical average of the trims from those several runs before making a change to the map.

This methodology has worked very well for me although it is a bit time consuming and takes a dedicated effort.

Obviously the biggest changes will occur early on in the cycle. Just continue the cycle as long as you want until you're satisfied with the result. Once you get to a certain point, the changes are so few and so small that they really don't affect performance that you can feel and become more of an exercise in "attention to detail".

In summary and to answer the original question, I don't really think it's the number of miles or amount of time you use for your tuning runs as much as how well you can exercise the bike during those runs.

Default Tunes with PV

With a Power vision, typically 4 20 min sessions on varied terrain, will generally net you a pretty good tune for your set-up with narrow bands if a good base map has been obtained (Fuelmoto)..I have tuned quite a few with the PV, and this seems to work out pretty well. Six sessions at most...Now if you want to mess around with different maps: you can develop several different ones for particular applications...Mileage, performance, heavy touring, etc..and store them for flashing when you need something different..I have four in mine.. enjoy, Scooter

Thanks for the replies. I guess I sould have made my question more clear. If I do a tuning run and flash the ECM how long should I ride with the new tune before I start a new tuning session and reflash?

O the misery of being confined to the stock narrow band O2 sensors and a primarily Alpha N system.

your question was clear enough, and so was the answer. you can wait as long as you want. if you want to immediately start another tuning run, you can. if you just want to ride it for a while to see how it performs, you can do that to.
