I'm running the Wood 222 cams and because of there 28 degree overlap and the quiet somewhat restrictive mufflers I use the cupping/banging a board with a hammer sound coming out of the throttle body is much more noise then I can live with (2000-4000 RPM at all speeds).
So I'm looking for input if the 254 cams with there 3 degree overlap would eliminate the sound I'm hearing? Or is it back to stock.
PLEASE stick to what I'm asking.
I am running the 254e and I don't think I have that sound you are talking about. As far as comparing the 254 to the 204, as mentioned by fmfpj,I am running basically the same set up as him except that I am running 103, with Burly heads stock Throttle body heavy breather and fatcat, tuned with a pro SE race tuner, and am getting 102 hp. and 115 lbs. torque, I am assuming that the 254e is doing everything that the 204 is doing plus some.

I have the TW222's and I'm very happy with them. I am surprised how close they are to stock in terms of engine noise.
If I was you I would just turn up the radio a little louder and save yourself some money and aggravation. You have one of the best cams out there for a stock 103.

Maybe check your pushrod adjustment, I haven't heard a lot of noise complaints about that cam.

When you say burly heads are you talking about Earl.
If I was running an open muffler the noise would be just about gone its because I choose to run quiet mufflers
