does anyone know the difference in the length of streetglide and regular touring shock, is it 3/4 or 1 inch?
Everyone calls them 12" or 13", but the difference is actually 3/4", not 1". I just added new '13 Ultra shocks to my '12 SG, along with a set of LA Chopper lowering blocks. If you do the math, the bike actually sits 1/4" lower than with the stock 12" shocks. I have not bottomed the new ones out yet, and am very happy with the way the setup works.
my own unscientific measurement shows that the laden weight ( mounted on the bike) length is closer to the 1" difference.
the 12" shock has about 65% of the suspension travel of the 13".
I use the 12's in town...but the 13's when I tour.( for the long days I prefer the floaty cadillac ride)
20 minute swap.

Could be right Mike, My measurements were done on the bench. Either way, the ride is much nicer with the Ultras! I know I haven't bottomed out yet this season with my setup!

i'll tell you that i think this was exactly what i was looking for. does it ride alot better now? and i could use it alittle lower too.

All I can tell you is that I'm very satisfied with the combination. Bike still sits low, it has longer travel shocks, there is no scraping, and no jarring my spine when the old ones would bottom out! Others have gone different routes, I'm fine for my riding with these!!!! No need to look farther. Good luck, Joe
Thanks for posting. I have been thinking of doing this also. My EG Classic had the OEM 13" shocks with a lowering kit and still had a cushy ride so in my mind I figured I'd get the same results with the Street Glide.
