Hey first post! I am getting my dads old shovel head back on the road after being off for about 10 years, and I need a new battery. Where is a good place to buy one online and what type/brand is best? Does anyone know the OEM part number for the battery that I need a replacement for?
Can't go wrong with the factory HD AGM battery. The one I just replaced was 9 years old - though admittedly 6 of those years were in my basement, on and off of a battery tender.
I just put a Big Crank (Deka) in my '81 shovel, reported to be the same battery as factory... we'll see.
It's grey so doesn't look as good on my sturgis, but at $85 vs $189 (cdn price) I figured I'd live with it.
I got it from Battery Mart, free shipping to my US mailbox.
I believe the FLHS has a Superglide-sized battery? If so, look at the ETX 16.
I'm not familiar enough with the battery arrangement on the FLHS to know if the posts are the same layout as my FXB.
The déka batteries sold by batteries plus etc are NOT the same battery that HD sells. These battery stores are programmed to say that but it's just not true.
Nothing beats an HD battery. Made to their specs a ways seem to last longer on average.
Hi from a 1990 FLHS owner and welcome to HDF. Batteries have changed a lot since your bike was made. I suggest you avoid all batteries that need acid and buy an AGM type. They are sealed for life and give better performance than the old style did, also last longer. All on-line retailers have them, but don't pass over calling your nearest dealer or indy, if they are close by.
