another windshield thread!
For those of you interested in the plethora of batwing windshield options, I thought I'd provide an update;
As I mentioned in the other threads on the subject, I've been driving myself batty on the windshield question. I've tried the HD stock 12+" clear one, the stock SG 4.5" tinted one and a 9" tinted recurve.
I'm 5'11" +/or- and prefer to look over the shield.
1) the stock HD clear tall shield worked great for buffeting but as I said, I prefer to look over the shield as bugs, dust, rain, etc. can make looking through it a problem, especially at dawn or dusk. I didn't care for the look either and it felt a little too "car like" .
2) I bought an acrylic 9" light tint recurve and went on a 2500 mile trip with it. Short version; liked the look, was too tall for me to comfortably look over, and the acrylic didn't hold up well.
3) the stock SG shield made it easy to look over but offered little protection from buffeting and looked too low to me. It was also too dark to look through though at 4.5" there wasn't much to look through anyway.
....so after reading all the threads here, I spoke with Jim from Fast Aire who did a great job of answering my questions. I ordered a 7" light grey recurve. All Fast Aire's shields are polycarbonate. I just installed it and it looks great. Jim was knowledgeable, professional, prompt and just a great guy to deal with.
now all I need to do is to get out and ride to see if my decision on height was the right one. (forgot to mention that I put thin strips of tape on my stock clear shield and went for a ride to see what height I needed).
Anyway, hope this helps somebody and I'll report back on my thoughts after riding with it for awhile.
Cheers,
Dave

I'm 5'10" and use a mustang touring seat, and the 6" aero from Jim is treating me well, I'd like to try the 7" but the 6" works so I'm happy
I think the best combination is the way the Ultra comes stock, the windshield and lowers work together to give a great buffet free ride, I'm 6'2" and can just see over the windshield. I wonder if you could buy a seat that would boost you up high enough to see over the stock windshield and give you the same effect it does for me.

The only Electraglide that I've seen with a shorter windshield stock was a CVO, is this what you mean?
Dave
Assuming you mean an Electraglide Ultra Classic or Ultra Limited, I believe they have the same windshield my EG Classic does which is about 13.5" tall. seeing as how I can't see over the 9" comfortably, I have a problem envisioning anyone looking over the stock clear EG shield? I'm thinking my "booster seat" would need to be about 6" tall!

just measured my stock 2013 EG Ultra windshield and it's 12" from top of fairing to top of shield and at 6'2" I see over it comfortably by a 1" or more. Your right there is 6" between us but it depends if that's in the legs or upper torso. Likely its a bit of both so maybe we are only talking 2 or 3" in the upper torso and thought a seat could help make up that difference. Sounds like your windshield is taller too though which isn't helping.

Dave I just bought my bike a couple weeks ago. I test rode a Street Glide, Road Glide Custom (with 3 different windshields because I really wanted a RG) a EG Custom and finally a Electra Glide Ultra all with in a hour or so on the same route. The only one that worked for me and was ready to hit the highway with was the EG Ultra, I was about to give up on finding the highway bike I was looking for until I finally rode the Ultra. I was surprised it was so quiet and buffet free at highway speeds, it being the only bike with lowers I suggest they have a lot to do with it, the Ultra also has the little deflectors on the fairing which are probably helping. I'm suggesting just a windshield may not get you to the point you want to be.
I'm kind of confused as to how we're supposed to be measuring these things.I have the stock windshield on my "Limited" and everyone calls it "the stock 12" But I have also heard of some windshields being measured from the mounting hole there's got to be about an inch of difference there.I tried a Klock Works that they told me was a 7" but I later found out Klock Works doesn't make a 7" only 6.5. wonder where they measure that from? The "12" works well but aside from having to look through the windshield the top of the windshield is just inside my field of view and it's distracting. The Klock Works has the worst high speed buffeting to the sides of my helmet I've ever felt and you an actually see the windshield vibrating at freeway speeds.
