Default Temp disconnect PCIII for service?

Sorry for the lame question but I'm a newbie to the board and running EFI. I have a quick question for the techs on the board. I have added SE exhaust and SE air cleaner and will run with the PCIII. I have not done the stage one download from the dealer. This question I have is I have to take the bike to the dealer to program the radio and if I remove the PCIII what harm will that do to the bike? should I re-install the stock exhaust before remove the power commander? Or should I take the bike with the power commander installed and just have the service port out for the tech to program the radio?

Thanks in advance for any help on this

the radio gets programmed via a CD. They do not go near the ECM to program the radio. Leave the PCIII alone.

"the radio gets programmed via a CD."

Even for the intitial programming on a new radio? I thought there was more to it than that.

Depends on how your shop is with dealing with those mods....

The calibration to the radio is about a 5 minute job, and really is important, cause you don't want to hear that beep every 30 seconds..

And yes, contrary to what others say, it MUST be done via the diagnostic link.....

It s always good when great information is given out.
And Bob's got it right (just as he normally does)

"MINOR SOFTWARE UPDATES" are done using a CD that you can download from the web.

PROGRAMING and INTIAL INSTALLATION are done thru the ECM Data link

Bob, Beep? What beep are you talking about? Will my radio beep when it needs a software update?

Many thanks,

The "Beep" is for when you install a new radio in a bike that never had one, or you replace one for a defective one....

Must be recalibrated by dealer.....

As far as updates, you gotta check the site, and no, no beeps...

Thanks everyone. The beep is more like every 5 seconds. Now for the rest of the question, should I drive with the PCIII removed or not? this is a new bike with 7 miles in it so I don't want to start off by running it too lean.

If you have the Stage I ECM Flash, and are using the PC as a piggyback to "Assist" the Stage I flash, then you will be okay....

If you have a Stock ECM, and are running the SEAC and SE Mufflers, you run the risk of doing damage to the combustion chamber, as it will be wayyyy too lean...

Thanks Bob, I have not installed the SEAC yet so I think I'll let that off until I get the radio programmed. I already have the SE exhaust installed but since the bike is just sitting in the garage here in northeast ohio I can hold off on installing the SEAC since I'm not planning on riding anytime soon
