01flhtci rebuild update pics
Today I wired in the LED digital gauges for oil, fuel, volts.
Still need to do tach and speedo (they're next).
then I need to finish sorting the factory wiring mess that will be
located under the seat instead of in the original fairing that I am
not reinstalling.
wanted a stainless steel box to mount on the tank console for the gauges,
but price was too much at this time.
So took a piece of elm froma tree I had cut down for fire wood, and carved
a mounting box from it.
Wanted to put road king style ignition switch and the stock air temp gauge
there too, but not enough room. spot, cruise and access switches will be mounted
in left cover when I get that far and ignition switch will be frame mounted right side
under seat with exterior access.
And yep I know I'm off a touch on spacing between top and middle gauge, didn't catch it till was too late. Well when I go to stainless will correct it then.

Yeah, I know but the wood does look nice on the bike with the paint scheme.
And yep I know the spacing. will make a new plate later. Didn't catch it till was too late.
already had holes drilled and started cutting with the die grinder. Gauges are easy to swap out and redo though. Just the screws holding in the top plate, unhook wires from gauges and go do it. But takes time and I want to get this together and rideable before blessing of bikes this year, last of March or first of April.
That is brutal Chooch...a friggin' box make outa firewood...WTF...check the guage spacing![:'(]
Yeah well.......
I bought this bike from the insurance company in 2/2002. Cost me total $5600 complete.
put 1550 big bore kit in and S/E cams. Had frame blasted and then a cheap (per se) blue paint (figured it's going to get rock chips anyway, living on mile of gravel road),
Spent more money on painting fenders and tank ($600). I did all the prep work on those.
Sanded and smoothed out welds.
Painter I used has been doing classic car repainting for years, but had never done a fade from one color to another before, so he gave me a discount. But the work is good for his first time.
Have a fiber glass king tour pack that I need to finish repairing, two saddle bags and side covers to have painted, I hope this summer. Bags and pack were cracked but fixable.
Temporarily I have a new black pack I will put on but leave bags off. I want to use custom mounts for bags no guards or rails, so I can take bags off for a leaner look.
Maybe go to a chopped tour pack later, will see.
goofing off a little, took all day to untangle wires and wire in the led gauges.
Just finished untangling the OEM fairing cap rocker switches (spot, access and cruise) and located them to the left cover area. Will cut and mount tomorrow, maybe.
Still need to straighten as much as possible the mess under the seat, but can only do so much with them, will just hide them under the seat.
Well, maybe have it back on both wheels in two weeks.
No hurry cold and windy and miserable outside.
choochoo; Looks like your making progress. Don't keep track of the receipts, it will only get depressing. I looked for a couple seasons for a rebuilder I could come out on but they are so over priced. Parts add up at an alarming rate. You should be touring shortly.
