I would go tandem but if not,I (would with out doubt) get a torflex axle on single. The torflex has no springs, the suspension is built into the axle plus it sits lower to the ground which helps when loading a lowered bike. This is the axle they use on horse trailers for a smother ride. They have a lot less bounce and tend to way out last leaf springs. They come in different wt limits.I would not buy less than 3500 lbs.

My company has this one.

I agree with rmc115, dual axle is overkill for a single bike trailer. Besides the extra cost, it will give you less fuel mileage, more maintenance, more flat tires and like already stated, a PITA when it comes time to maneuver it around when hitching and moving around when unhitched. Have Wells Cargo single bike trailer for our UC, sorry, can't remember the dimensions but great trailer.

Like stated above, I have used the Kendon for years with great results - with that said - going to retire next year and I am starting to keep my eyes open for a single wells cargo inclosed type. Wife and I are planing a 6-9 month trip ... So, what is a "good" deal... might be good info for a lot of people out there????

If you have the room and $$$ here is what I would like to have next year.. http://www.wellscargo.com/silverspor...cycle+Trailers

Enclosed trailer - tandem is the way to go. Open - I prefer a single with a 3500lb axle.

if you go the tandem route and you vant the 'V" nose go all aluminum. A steel frame V nose has too much tongue weight.

Whatever size, width, length, heigth, single, tandem or whatever, get it with stabilizers on the back, Look like small jackstands under the back of the trailer, crank up the jack a little, then drop them down and jack up the front more, making the ramp and floor the same plane. It makes loading and unloading verry safe. If the trailer has a wood floor use the non slip paint from Lowes. I had mine at a 30 degree angle one time while unloading the bike. another story. Dan

If you have the room go with the tandem axel. I have the kendon with the stone guard. Bob.

I have built several trailers, 1 was made to haul hunting dogs long distances, that had to ride smooth. To me the trick has always been to match the weight you are hauling to the spring capacity. The closer you get to the maximium, the smoother the ride. The other important thing is to have ALOT of tongue wieght, especially if you are pulling it with a truck. The trailers I've built always have the axle back about a foot further backthan most, and they pull like their not even back there. The last one I built I used a 3500 lb axle with 2000 lb springs, works great with 2 bikes.
