I've been poking around the touring forums for awhile and I think I really have my mind set on moving up to a Road King.
My question to current and past Road King owners is about the frame change in 09. Is that really a huge deal? Is there a huge difference in the ride? Is it worth me waiting until I have enough funds to get an 09 or newer?
I'm hoping to trade my Street Bob for the Road King and to not have to spend a couple thousand (or more) I realize I will have to find an older Road King.
Opinions vary...when I moved over into the touring class it was Feb of 2009. I was looking for an Ultra...and the dealer had a couple of brand new 08's at reduced pricing. I rode the 08 and then the 09. I bought the 09. No comparison in my mind. Same frame on all the touring models...and yes...in my opinion it was a pretty big change.
Thanks SlowRain, that's exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. Anybody else have the same experience?
No problem. You can do some web searching to find out the differences...but the main one was going from a frame of 90 components down to 40. A bit more "solid feel" to it. I don't remember the exact number but there were something like 400+ changes made.
I have a Dyna and a bagger. They are two completely different bikes. The Dyna is my canyon carver deluxe and teh bagger is for long trips. My dyna will leave any bagger in the dust but I love having the stereo on teh bagger. The poor dyna has been gathering dust for weeks. It is going to Born Free tomorrow so I can stretch her legs.
I used to Have a Wide Glide,Then I Got A 06 Street Glide,Awsome Bike,Once you ride a Bagger With A fairing youll never go back.Had My 06 4 yrs.so it was time to upgrade,Got A 2011 103 Street Glide What a great bike my 06 was a Good Bike,But The Ride an Handleing is Much better on the 11,I like the Fat back tire an the 18 inch on the front. My wife always comments how much better the Ride is on the 11 And the power of the 103 is Nice Too.
There is no such thing as moving "up" from a Dyna. Just a change in riding preference.
EXACLTY! I walked out on a salesgirl one time when she asked what I was moving up from. I then asked her if she was implying that my current ride (a Street Bob) was a POS. She laughed. I didn't.
Anyway, I had a SB, then a Fatty, now a King. Night and difference for a 3 bikes. The Bob was fun, but the King is absolutely spectacular to ride! Rides like a dream!!
