You're in a great place for advice. I spent a very long time reading back through shocks threads a few years ago and concluded that we have two options, when shopping for them: spend a lot of time trying a variety of cheaper shocks, plus a lot of cash; or take the short cut to Howard at MM. Tell him you are a member of HDF as he offers decent discounts. You will never look back!
Respectfully, the Ohlins don't hold a candle to the JRIs. The JRIs feature a longer stroke (92mm vs. 77mm), and everything is beautiful machined metal, rather than the Delrin on the Ohlins. I have owned both (#3-4 Ohlins, "B" JRIs), and have no issue at all stating that the JRIs are the superior unit.
Not that Howard Ohlins are bad....They're still better than just about anything else out there. The JRIs are just better.
Thank you all for the input. Will the JRI and/ or the 944 shocks lower the rear? I need to loose an inch, at the least.
I can tell you that the jri 13" shocks lowered me about an inch over the junk 13" Harley air shocks. The ability to properly set the sag based on your weight is the key. Stock crap is one size fits all. Can't speak for the 944's but I'd imagine the setup would be similar. JRI's are a work of art and a true performance shock. Howard will customize for you as necessary. Obviously if price is the key, you have fewer options. Won't touch JRI's for 500 but you get what you pay for
